All Battles End at Sunset is the tale of a young orphan who sets sail with a legendary sea captain, their mission to provide refuge for those in need, and the challenges they face along the way.*
It's the perfect gift for boys, girls really like it too and it looks great on a shelf. Available in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle.
About the Character: Meet Marcel
Marcel (pronounced Mar-sell) is an orphan from France who's got it all figured out. All he has to do is grow up and be a man. Then he won't have to worry about getting kicked around by adults and always feeling alone. At least, that's what he tells everybody anyway. But what Marcel really wants is a family. And when a band of freedom fighters offer the boy a spot among them on a voyage to the New World, Marcel can only wonder — is he about to find what he's been looking for?
He grows up the more you read! When you first meet Marcel in Chapter 1, he's just a twelve-year-old boy in constant search for fun. By the end of the book, he'll be nearly fifteen and capable of making some very tough choices. There'll be a lot of lessons for him to learn that you'll get to experience along with him.
Here are some fun facts to help you get to know him a little better. Maybe you have some things in common!
He dislikes shoes (he prefers to be barefoot)
Likes to wrestle and play
Loves food
Shoots the bow and arrow
Isn't afraid to speak what's on his mind
Finds ways to laugh when his life is in danger
Would rather be in the woods than out at sea
Would willingly put his own life at risk to protect others
Making History Fun with Author Jared Acuña
History should certainly never be boring, but it definitely should always aim to be true! In writing All Battles End at Sunset, author Jared Acuña toured many places and researched many books — he even read some journals written by real historical people featured in the story! While the main character Marcel is a completely made-up one, he is surrounded by people who really lived and events that really happened. Marcel's story is kinda like seeing a point in history from a kid's perspective — a kid who was just like you and me!
From the back cover:
1562, Florida. Elizabeth sits on the throne in England. The Inquisition strikes through the heart of Spain. In France, it's Catholic against Protestant, in a time that will forever be known as the French Wars of Religion.
Twelve-year-old orphan boy Marcel finds himself caught up in the action when he joins legendary sea captain Jean Ribault and his crew of French Freedom fighters known as the Huguenots, searching for a haven for the persecuted of Europe. Together, they set sail for Florida — where mysterious Native Timucuans watch from the palm trees, and dragonlike alligators lurk in the swamps — only to be hunted down by the life Marcel and the Huguenots all thought they could escape.
